Funds Will Be Used To Recruit Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Students

August 8, 2007

Saratoga Springs, NY – Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand today announced a $548,841 grant award for Skidmore College from the National Science Foundation.  These funds will be used to recruit students to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, also known as STEM Majors.

Congresswoman Gillibrand introduced an amendment to the 21st Century Competitiveness Act, creating a grant program specifically for the recruitment of students for STEM education.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Skidmore,” said the Congresswoman.  “The future of America rests on our ability to compete globally in these fields, and we must encourage our children and invest in their future through opportunities such as this.”

Skidmore College, founded in 1903, is a private liberal-arts college located in Saratoga Springs serving approximately 2,400 students.
