Committees

Senator Nelson is a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services, Budget, Commerce, Foreign Relations, Intelligence and Aging committees.

Armed Services Committee

Oversees the DefenseDepartment and all branches of the military. It also supervises thedevelopment of weapons systems and military operations in the war on terrorism.

Subcommittees:

  • Chairman of Strategic Forces Subcommittee
  • Member of the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee
  • Member of the Seapower Subcommittee

Budget Committee

Drafts the annual budget for the federal government. This committee creates economic policy and sets parameters for congressional spending.

Commerce Committee

Has jurisdiction over consumer affairs. The panel also deals with a range of issues that have a direct impact on Florida�s economy, including NASA, science, technology, foreign commerce, tourism, oceans and fisheries.

Foreign Relations Committee

Oversees the State Department, international treaties and the Peace Corps, as well as, foreign economic, military, technical, and humanitarian assistance. It plays an important role in setting international economic policies, preventing terrorism and stopping the flow of illegal drug into the U.S.

  • Member of the Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps, and Narcotics Affairs Subcommittee
  • Member of the African Affairs Subcommittee

Intelligence Committee

Oversees the intelligence activities and programs of the United States Government.

Aging Committee

Oversees and investigates a range of issues affecting seniors, including retirement security, nursing home quality, consumer scams and prescription drug prices.
