BIDEN Issues Statement on Eve of Dr. King Assassination Anniversary

Washington, DC – On the eve of the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., United States Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-DE) issued the following statement:
"I still remember exactly where I was standing and exactly what I was doing when I learned of Dr. King's ill-fated death on April 4th, 1968. At that moment, and in the days and weeks following, it was a time of grief and confusion for our country, but also a moment of clarity. His tragic death presented the harsh reality that injustice and inequality were more entrenched and more powerful than previously acknowledged.
“There is still a long way to go in the fight to ensure civil rights for all citizens and it is incumbent upon elected and community leaders to end the injustices we see.
“I never had the privilege of meeting Dr. King in person. But tomorrow, as we mark Dr. King's death, it is once again a time to celebrate his enduring legacy and remember how far we have yet to go in fulfillment of his dream. The distance our nation has traveled is a triumph, but the pursuit of perfection embodied in Dr. King's dream and the truths declared by our Founding Fathers continues.”
