Site to feature more bilingual content than any other Congressional Website
ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Congresswoman Heather Wilson, unveiling her new Website— www.house.gov/wilson— noted that it has more bilingual content than any other Congressional Website, and is loaded with interactive information that constituents can actually use.
Wilson’s site is getting a lot of attention on Capitol Hill and is being touted as one of the most user-friendly and information-packed Websites for a member of Congress.
"Helping people who need information or who are having problems with the federal government is a big part of my job,” says Wilson. “Now we have taken that commitment to the Internet. The Web is a great way to stay in touch with the people I represent and this site has an incredible amount of information—in English and Spanish—that I think people will really find useful and informative."
The new site is:
* the first truly bilingual site for a member of Congress;
* one of the few that lets constituents “vote” on the same issues on which Congress will;
* the only House member’s Website with a section dedicated to providing detailed information and services for businesses; and
* loaded with more interactive constituent service information than any other member’s.
Wilson’s Website features information and links about:
* cutting through the red-tape of the federal government;
* business;
* visiting Washington, D.C. and Albuquerque, New Mexico;
* Wilson’s views on a variety of issues, including education, retirement security, tax relief, the environment and crime; and
* how to research legislation currently before Congress, including bills sponsored and co-sponsored by Heather.
In addition, the Wilson site has a special “Student Corner” section where students of all ages can access information especially for them.
A weekly electronic newsletter, which you can sign up for on the site, keeps subscribers up-to-date on legislative schedules, issues before Congress, and important votes. The site even has a “voting” feature where constituents can vote on an issue that Congress is about to consider. Wilson`s office also plans to add a "bulletin board" feature where people can post their opinions about issues to share with their “cyber-neighbors.”
Another feature Wilson touted today is the fact that users can view much of the site’s content in Spanish. "My staff constantly updates the site with new information, in English and Spanish, so I encourage you to check back often to see what`s new," says Wilson.
Wilson announced her new site today with students in a high school bilingual web-publishing class huddled around her in Albuquerque High’s computer lab. The Albuquerque High School bilingual web class—the only one of its kind in the state—teaches students to design, create, and maintain publications on the World Wide Web and is conducted mostly in Spanish. Albuquerque High maintains APS’s only fully bilingual Website through the efforts of this class.
