Tips for Hurricane Season
06/16/2008 - 10:55:03 AM
Hurricane season is now upon us, and as the devastating effects from past hurricanes remind us, it is important to be prepared.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division has issued a list of recommendations on how to be prepared for hurricane season. They advise that you gather the supplies needed for an emergency kit and talk to your family about a disaster plan, so your family is ready ahead of time.

They have also compiled a guide filled with essential information on hurricane watches and warnings, important phone numbers, shelters and evacuation routes.

The National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center has up-to-date information on hurricanes around the United States and Caribbean, forecasting information and more tips on how to be prepared.

FEMA provides a guide to hurricane preparedness and how to begin the recovery should a hurricane hit your community.

Last, but not least, the Red Cross has valuable information on what to do after a disaster hits and also provides contacts for your local Red Cross organization.

No matter where you choose to get your information, it is important to be prepared for the hurricane season and know the steps to take before, during, and after a hurricane.
