Statement
of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold
On Disaster Relief Funding for Wisconsin Passed by the Senate
September 27, 2008
"I am pleased
Senate appropriators responded to our request to provide federal assistance
for a number of natural disasters over the summer including the disastrous
flooding in Wisconsin. More than $22 billion will be available to help
repair and clean up communities, roads, homes, farms and businesses
in the Midwest and the Gulf Coast. Wisconsinites are strong and resilient
and this funding will go a long way in helping those who lost so much
in the flooding. I remain committed to ensuring Wisconsin gets the resources
it needs to rebuild and make our communities even stronger. This funding
will also assist families recently affected by Hurricane Ike. Our thoughts
are with these families as they begin to rebuild."
On September
18th, Senator Feingold was part of a bipartisan group of Senators that
wrote to the leadership of the Senate Appropriations Committee to request
a disaster relief funding package. Over $22 billion in funding relief
for states including Wisconsin was included in the Continuing Resolution
passed by the Senate today.
