2009 Presidential Inauguration Tickets
Thank you for your interest in tickets to the Presidential Inauguration. The level of excitement over this historic event has been unprecedented. Our office received requests from more than 20,000 Georgians and unfortunately, we were allocated only 393 tickets to distribute. Senator Isakson distributed the vast majority of these tickets on a first come-first served basis, starting with those who requested tickets as far back as January 2008. As a result, we have no more tickets to distribute.
We are aware that many folks are planning to come to Washington that day even if they do not have a ticket. If you are planning to come, we wanted to let you know of a few opportunities.
While the areas of the National Mall closest to the U.S. Capitol will require a ticket, the rest of the National Mall will be open to the public. Also, you do not need a ticket to stand along the inaugural parade route. Be aware that it will be cold in Washington in January and that you could be standing outside for several hours and chairs or stools are prohibited.
Also, the Georgia State Society of Washington, D.C. will host the Georgia Inaugural Gala on Monday, January 19, 2009, at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. The event will be a bipartisan salute to the state of Georgia, a congratulatory celebration to President-elect Barack Obama and a tribute to the memory and legacy of fellow Georgian, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please visit http://www.georgiastatesociety.org/ if you are interested in purchasing tickets to this event.
