Bachmann Stands Up for Disabled Veterans

(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann supported the bipartisan passage of H.R. 6445, prohibiting the Secretary of Veterans Affairs from collecting copayments from veterans who are catastrophically disabled. H.R. 6445 is a comprehensive veterans bill that expands existing benefits and offers critical protections for veterans with severe disabilities.
“I am truly proud to support this legislation,” Bachmann said. “We have a sacred responsibility to stand up for those brave men and women who stand up for America and her freedoms. This bill will ensure that veterans with severe disabilities are protected from government collection agents. These heroes put their lives on the line for their country – and their government must be a friend, not a burden to them, in their time of need.”
In addition to prohibiting certain government medical and nursing bills, the legislation would expand counseling services for veterans’ families. Presently, only the families of veterans with combat injuries have access to mental health and counseling services. This legislation would expand those benefits to other veterans’ families. Also, the bill would require the VA to establish an in-depth plan for helping veterans with acute and chronic pain.
