National Park Service Selects Houston Trails Project for Assistance

The National Park Service (NPS) announced on November 24 that it selected the West Houston Trails Planning Project in West Houston to receive technical assistance for a second year. The funding is part of the NPS Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program.

Iraq Approves a Timetable for U.S. Withdrawal

Iraq’s parliament and presidential council have passed a security agreement setting new rules for the U.S. military’s presence in their country as well as a timeline for troop withdrawal. The security agreement requires that Americans withdraw from Iraqi cities by June 30, 2009 and withdraw from the entire country by December 31, 2011. The agreement also grants the Iraqi government more control over the operations of U.S. forces, solidifying its sovereignty.

DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE DEADLINE EXTENDED TO DEC. 12

AUSTIN, Texas – Texans who became unemployed because of Hurricane Ike have more time to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), now that the deadline has been extended to Dec. 12, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Governor’s Division of Emergency Management (GDEM).

Holiday Mail for Heroes

The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Inc. have announced that they will work together to touch the lives of thousands of men and women in uniform this holiday season. Their program, ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ is a coordinated effort to show appreciation for our troops by sending a personal greeting during this special time of year.
