Chairman Waxman Requests Information on Billions in Universal Service Fund Subsidies

Chairman Waxman wrote to 24 companies to request information about their use of Universal Service Fund (USF) subsidies. Collectively, the companies receive billions of dollars to provide service in “high-cost” areas throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Along with his letter, Chairman Waxman released FCC data listing the top corporate recipients of USF subsidy dollars.

The following companies received letters from Chairman Waxman: ALLTEL Corporation, America Movil
AT&T; Inc., CenturyTel, Inc., Citizens Communications Company, Embarq, Qwest Communications International, Inc., Sprint Nextel Corporation, Telephone and Data Systems, Inc., Verizon Communications, Inc., Windstream Corporation, Accipter Communications Inc., Adak Telephone Utility, Allband Communications Cooperative, Beaver Creek Telephone Company, Beehive Telephone Company, Border to Border Communications Inc., Elsie Communications Inc., Mescalero Apache Telecom Inc., Sandwich Isles Communications Inc., South Central Telephone Association, Inc., South Park Telephone Company, Summit Telephone and Telegraph, Terral Telephone Company.
