Alexander Statement on Senate Passage of Iraq Funding Bill
May 22nd, 2008 - U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement regarding Senate passage of a supplemental appropriations bill to fund troops in Iraq and Afghanistan:
“This bill should be about supporting our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq now. Congress shouldn’t load up a troop funding bill with domestic spending, no matter how deserving some of the provisions are, and we shouldn’t use this bill to tell commanders on the ground how to manage troops. If we don’t pass legislation that the president can sign by mid-June, the Defense Department will run out of the money to properly equip and pay our men and women in uniform.”
