Alexander, Corker Announce More Than $20 Million for Tennessee
Department of Housing and Urban Development Grant to Support Tennessee Disaster Relief

November 26th, 2008 - WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) today announced Tennessee would receive $20.6 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for disaster relief.

"These disaster relief dollars will provide much needed help to Tennesseans who are striving to rebuild their homes, business and towns after last year’s weather disasters," Alexander said. "Tennessee’s congressional delegation and our staffs will continue to find ways to support these communities so they can come back stronger than ever."

"Many communities in our state have been hit hard by tornados and severe weather over the past year, so I'm very pleased that Tennessee was included in this funding for disaster relief and long-term recovery efforts," said Corker. "My staff and I remain committed to helping these Tennesseans rebuild their lives and their livelihoods."

The money awarded to Tennessee was a part of the $6 billion in supplemental Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds appropriated to states for ongoing expenses related to disaster relief and long-term recovery. The funds are intended to help states in the restoration of infrastructure, economic and housing revitalization in areas affected by natural disasters that took place during 2008.
