SENATOR McCAIN COMMENDS CITIZENS AGAINST GOVERNMENT WASTE FOR THE ANNUAL “CONGRESSIONAL PIG BOOK”

April 2, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today made the following statement about the release of Citizens Against Government Waste’s “Congressional Pig Book.” The annual congressional pork barrel spending list highlights wasteful spending enacted by Congress.

“What CAGW does every year with the release of this ‘Pig Book’ is of critical importance, yet again illustrating the wasteful spending we see year after year in the appropriations bills.  Once again, my friends at CAGW have done a great job of compiling a comprehensive list of unnecessary and wasteful pork barrel projects. By shedding light on these egregious projects, they are helping to make Congress more accountable to the American people.

“We have taken small steps in the fight against pork barrel spending in calling for greater transparency, but Congress still has a long way to go to rectify the detrimental impact pork barrel spending has on the budget process and on America’s fiscal strength.”
