BUSH URGES CONGRESS TO INCREASE AMERICAN ENERGY EXPLORATION

Earlier today, President Bush called upon Congress to lift oil exploration bans to allow access to American energy supplies:

In his speech, the president laid out four specific suggestions for Congress:
  1. allow drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS);
  2. allow tapping into oil shale reserves out West;
  3. allow drilling drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR);
  4. and, allow expansion and enhancing of refining capacities.
Soon after the speech, Sen. DeMint praised Bush for putting pressure on Congress, saying: "We must correct the mistakes of the last 30 years that have driven up gas prices and allow America to increase our own energy supply. The President was absolutely right to call for an end to the federal ban on deep-sea oil and gas exploration, and Congress should vote to end the ban before we recess. With gas prices over $4 and home energy costs rising, it’s time for America to control our own energy supply.”
