Senator Ben Nelson visited Ft. Riley, Kansas to examine the troop readiness of the 1st Infantry Division and 16 members of Nebraska's Army National Guard. The pre-Civil War training facility is currently home to nearly 10,000 active military personnel preparing for missions and has trained more than 2,100 U.S. troops who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Concerned with equipment shortages and recruitment difficulties, Senator Nelson left Ft. Riley very impressed with the soldiers' preparation and morale.
