Presidential Inauguration

Former U.S. Senator Barack Obama will be inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009. The ceremony will be held outdoors on the west side of the U.S. Capitol, and members of Congress will receive a limited number of free tickets for the U.S. Capitol Grounds and a portion of the National Mall. The remainder of the Mall will be open to the public to attend without tickets.

Since the November 4 elections, I have been accepting requests from Nebraskans for the tickets. I have received requests from so many enthusiastic Nebraskans for far more tickets than I am allocated. I am sorry to announce that as of 5 p.m. C.S.T., November 18, I must stop accepting new requests for tickets.

My staff will be in touch with those of you who have pending requests regarding ticket availability. My staff will also let people know in January the process by which people can claim their tickets. You should know, I also will continue working with the other members of the Nebraska Congressional delegation to try to fill as many requests as possible.

Please visit the website of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies for more information at www.inaugural.senate.gov.

NOTE: Tickets are only available through members of Congress free of charge - do not attempt to purchase tickets from other sources. Additionally, when considering coming to the Inauguration, please keep in mind lodging and outdoor temperatures which have historically been around 20-40 degrees Fahrenheit. President Reagan's Inauguration was held indoors due to severe weather conditions.
