Pryor, Lincoln, Ross Announce Over $1 Million for Pine Bluff Based Head Start Program

Washington – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) announced today that the Department of Health & Human Services has renewed funding for the Jefferson Comprehensive Care Center’s Head Start program based in Pine Bluff with a $1,348,130 grant.  The funds will help the Center continue to provide comprehensive child care and development services to over 500 children on 14 sites in Jefferson and Grant counties.

“For many underserved children, Head Start is a critical program that provides tools for future success in the classroom,” Lincoln said.  “The federal dollars that support Head Start programs in Jefferson and Grant Counties will help ensure that Arkansas’s children have the care and instruction they need for a brighter future.”

“The continuation of these funds demonstrates our commitment to preparing our youngest members of society for success in the classroom,” said Pryor.  “These funds will allow Pine Bluff children to acquire critical developmental skills needed to enter kindergarten and learn.”

“These dollars are not just an investment in our children, they are a critical investment in our nation’s future,” said Ross.  “By helping these children get a head start, we can work to put them on a path to healthy, successful and prosperous lives.”

The Head Start program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school.
