Services for Wisconsinites: Casework - Grants

Non-profit organizations or communities often ask for help finding potential sources for funding for projects. In some cases, my office may be able to help by providing written support for a grant application to a federal program.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for a federal grant?

Federal dollars are generally reserved for communities, municipal agencies, and organizations with a 501(c)3 tax status (non-profit). Education grants, however, such as Pell grants and some fellowship/research grants are awarded to individuals. Click here to browse the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance by applicant eligibility.

How can I find information on grants and federal domestic assistance?

Most federal agencies have a grant or funding category listed on the agency website. Click here for further help in searching for grant and federal domestic funding.

Are there grants available for my small business?

The most common form of assistance for a small business is a low-interest loan through the Small Business Administration (SBA). The federal government rarely supports entrepreneurship through grants. See Small Business Administration.
