The strength of our servicemen and women have shown throughout history can only be praised and admired.  Today, as our young men and women follow in the footsteps of our veterans, I am confident that they will continue their legacy.  Bringing much needed resources to this growing population will continue to be my priority in Congress.  I recognize the achievements and sacrifices by our brave men and women in uniform and will vigilantly work on initiatives that address their needs.

!NEW! INFORMATION ON EXPANDED GI BILL BENEFIT:
President Bush signed the expanded GI Bill benefit into law on Monday, June 30, 2008.  Highlights of the new benefit include:

  • The value has more than doubled, from $40,000 - $90,000
  • Benefits include:
    • Full in-state tuition and fees for public colleges
    • A monthly housing stipend
    • $1,000 per year for books and supplies
  • Those who serve three years will recieve the full benefit.  Those with shorter enlistments will recieve between 40-90% of the benefit.
  • Benefits can be transferred to the service member's family (spouse or children).
