Q: Which committees is Congresswoman Solis a member of?

A: Congresswoman Solis is a member of three committees:  the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the House Committee on Natural Resources, and the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.  She is Vice Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on the Environment and Hazardous Materials.


Q: What other positions does Congresswoman Solis in Congress?

A: Congresswoman Solis is Co-Vice Chair of the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee and Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Task Force on Health and the Environment.  She is also a Senior Whip and a Regional Whip for Southern California.  In addition, Solis is a member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Commission), as well as the Mexico – United States Interparliamentary Group. In June 2007, Solis was elected Vice Chair of the Helsinki Commission’s General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.  She is the only U.S. elected official to serve on this Committee.

In the 109th Congress (2005-2006), Solis served as Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, the first Latina to hold this position.
