Fixing No Child Left Behind

I am a cosponsor of the Student Achievement and Successful Schools Act of 2007. H.R.1169, introduced by Rep. Betty McCollum, expresses the sense within Congress that full funding should be provided to schools to allow them to satisfy the federal mandates required under NCLB. The bill amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to allow states and school districts the necessary flexibility in implementing NCLB to ensure that all students are successful. Additionally, this bill would give schools, local and state educational agencies the ability to defer the implementation of certain requirements if the federal government does not live up to its NCLB funding commitments.

Education Legislative Work

H.R. 2924 – Congressman Ellison introduced The Greater Access To Education Act of 2007 on June 28, 2007. This bill would expand Hope Credit expenses to include eligability for room, board, fees, books, supplies, and equipment. It also makes the Hope Scholarship and the Lifetime Learning tax credits refundable.
