COLEMAN TOURS NEW MEDICAL FACILITY IN PARK RAPIDS

December 4th, 2008 - Park Rapids, MN - On December 4th, Senator Norm Coleman toured St. Joseph’s Area Health Services, a critical access hospital in Park Rapids, to view the hospital’s renovation and expansion to improve services. The renovations were made possible through the New Markets Tax Credits program (NMTC). The project, which is in its final phase of construction, is scheduled to open in the near future.

“With today’s tough economy, Minnesota’s communities must have access to the kind of economic development support the New Markets Tax Credit program provides. St. Joseph’s Area Health Services is the perfect example of how this funding can be used to enrich the community. Having seen the renovations firsthand, I feel confident this expansion will greatly improve the level of service the hospital provides to the community,” said Senator Norm Coleman.

The Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corp. has established several small loan funds to ensure the benefits of the New Markets Tax Credit program, a non-refundable tax credit intended to encourage private capital investment in eligible, impoverished, low-income communities. NMTC loans are extended to rural areas and distressed urban communities.
