Biography

U.S. Representative Jack Kingston has served Georgia’s 1st District for the past 16 years and was elected to his ninth term in November 2008. Throughout his career in public service at the state and national levels, he has fought to lower taxes, balance the budget, and reduce government interference in our lives.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for deciding how the federal budget is spent, Congressman Kingston serves on the Defense Subcommittee which oversees all military-based funding. With the 1st District home to, Moody AFB, Ft. Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Congressman Kingston has a special interest in America’s defense abilities. Recently appointed Ranking Member on the Appropriations Committee's Agriculture Subcommittee, he maintains a close relationship with Georgia’s farmers and has been one of their strongest allies in Washington. 

His down to earth style and common sense approach to issues have made him one of the strongest communicators in Congress and he is often a guest on network television shows such as Fox News, MSNBC, the Daily Show, the Colbert Report and Real Time with Bill Maher.  Known as an effective communicator and a conservative voice, Kingston has served as the Chairman of the Theme Team since 1997.

His conservative track record has won him recognition and awards from many non-partisan citizens’ groups and media outlets. In fact, in 2005 Congressman Kingston was rated as the "most conservative member of the House" by National Journal for his voting record the previous year. Further, he has been named each term as a “Taxpayer’s Hero," and “A Guardian of Small Business.” Congressman Kingston was also awarded the “Watchdog of the Treasury Award,” and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s “Spirit of Enterprise” Award.

Congressman Kingston’s district encompasses 25 counties in South Georgia stretching from Savannah to St. Marys, north to Wheeler County and includes four major military installations, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, and the ports of Savannah and Brunswick.

Congressman Kingston lives in Savannah. He is married and has four children and two dogs.
