This treaty formalized the purchase of land in Pennsylvania and cemented an amicable relationship between the Quakers and the Indians for almost a hundred years.  Penn was the last figure on which Brumidi worked.

The Intern Lecture Series is hosted by the Committee on House Administration, U.S. House of Representatives and the Committee on Rules and Administration, U.S. Senate.

  • Tuesday, June 17, 3 PM Supreme Court:
    Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice
    – Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was nominated by President Reagan to the United States Supreme Court, and he took his seat on September 26, 1986. Before assuming this position, he was a Professor of Law at the University of Virginia and the University of Chicago and was a Visiting Professor of Law at Georgetown University and Stanford University. He also served as Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. NOTE: Due to Supreme Court operating procedures, Interns must RSVP with their name and office to ILS.RSVP@mail.house.gov. A limited number of seats are available and RSVPs will be taken on a first come first serve basis.

  • Wednesday, June 18, 3:30 PM, SD-562:
    Terrance W. Gainer, Senate Sergeant at Arms
    - As the Senate Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper, Terrance W. Gainer serves as the protocol and chief law enforcement officer and is the principal administrative manager for most support services in the United States Senate. The protocol responsibilities include escorting the President and assisting in the inauguration of the President. As chief law enforcement officer of the Senate, the Sergeant at Arms is charged with maintaining security in the Capitol and all Senate buildings, as well as protection of the members themselves. Mr. Gainer’s career spans decades of experience in public safety, including recently serving as Chief of Police of the United States Capitol Police. In October 2006, Mr. Gainer worked for MPRI, an L-3 communications company, for which he was responsible for a multi-million dollar innovative law enforcement program supporting Army and Marine operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Senator Mel Martinez
    – Senator Mel Martinez is a United States Senator from Florida, a Republican, a Cuban American, and the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President George W. Bush. Born in Cuba, he arrived in the U.S. at age 15 and serves as the first Cuban American in the U.S. Senate. Senator Martinez sits on the Armed Services committee, the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committee, and the Energy and Natural Resources committee. He also serves on the Senate’s Special Committee on Aging.

  • Friday, June 20, 10 AM, 902 Hart:
    Sam Donaldson
    - Since joining ABC News in 1967 as a Capitol Hill correspondent, Sam Donaldson has covered many major news stories, including the Vietnam War, Watergate, and the House Judiciary Committee impeachment investigation in 1974. He has conducted interviews with President Bill Clinton, President George Bush, President Ronald Reagan, President Jimmy Carter, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Senator Hillary Clinton, and former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He co-anchored the ABC News Sunday morning broadcast, "This Week with Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts" and hosted “The Sam Donaldson Show -- Live in America." Mr. Donaldson has received numerous awards, including the Broadcaster of the Year award from the National Press Foundation, the Best Television Correspondent in the Business from Washington Journalism Review in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989, three Emmy Awards, and a George Foster Peabody Award.
