Congressman Don Cazayoux is currently serving his first term as the Representative from the Sixth District of Louisiana.  The district covers nearly all of the Baton Rouge metropolitan area, as well as surrounding parishes from the Felicianas and St. Helena to the north and Iberville and Livingston to the South.

Don was born and currently resides in New Roads.  He is a graduate of Catholic High of Pointe Coupee and went on to Louisiana State University where he earned BS and MA degrees.  After graduating from LSU, Don attended Georgetown Law School in Washington, DC where he earned a JD.

Following a stint in private practice in Baton Rouge, Don became a prosecutor in his native Pointe Coupee Parish.  Don never lost a jury trial and his work put hundreds of criminals behind bars, including sexual predators that prey on our children.  After leaving the prosecutor's office, Don began his own practice in New Roads.

In 1999, Don was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives and he was re-elected in 2003 and 2007.  Don was quickly appointed the powerful appropriations committee, which gave him a firm grasp on the budget process.  He used his influence and knowledge to work across party lines to pass strong legislation that benefited the people of Louisiana.  Don's work led to new investments in schools and roads and tougher laws that crack down on sexual predators.  Don was also at the forefront of the fight to make Louisiana's ethics laws some of the best in the nation.

In January of 2008, Don announced his candidacy to fulfill the unexpired term of retiring Congressman Richard Baker.  Don won a special election on May 3rd and was sworn into office just a few days later.  Since coming to Congress, Don has been named to the important Financial Services Committee, which oversees all components of the nation's housing and financial services sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities.  Don hopes to use the committee's influence over homeowners' insurance to help Louisianans coping with rising housing costs.

Congressman Cazayoux has also been named to the Veterans' Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over most issues affecting veterans, including medical care, pensions, and oversight responsibilities for the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

Don is firmly committed to protecting the values that Louisianans hold dearly by strengthening our middle class families.  He will work to create good jobs, make health care better and more affordable, and ensure that schools are giving our children the opportunities they deserve.

Don has been married to Cherie for 21 years and they have three children:  Michael, 17, Chavanne, 15, and Katie, 12.  They are members of St. Mary's Catholic Church where Don serves as a lector.  Don is also a member and former President of the Lions Club and is a member of both the American and Louisiana Bar Associations.
