LATTA VOTES AGAINST TAX INCREASE
Congressman Encourages President Bush to Veto H.R. 5131

Friday February 29, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement after voting against H.R. 5131, The Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act on Wednesday February 27th.

“The last thing my constituents and the rest of America needs right now is a $17.7 billion tax increase.  With energy prices already sky-high, this bill targets certain energy producers with an additional tax burden that would almost be guaranteed to be passed along to consumers.  While there are certain provisions within this bill that invest in alternative energy, the tax increase provisions within this bill cannot be justified.  Furthermore, this bill discourages domestic energy production that will only increase our reliance on Middle-Eastern oil, which will be counter-productive to reducing energy costs across the board.”
