The President’s National Hire Veterans Committee, created by Public Law 107-288, is now well underway to providing a strong link between employers and veteran job seekers.  To access information about the President’s Committee go to HireVetsFirst.gov.

Public Law 107-288, the Jobs for Veterans Act, dramatically redesigned the way the states help veterans obtain jobs.

Among other requirements, the law required the Secretary of Labor to establish a one-stop job training and placement service for military personnel and veterans via the Internet.  Now implemented, the site provides an electronic Job Service office with links to each state, employment opportunities and job training listings, benefits information, access to apprenticeships, and case management services. 

Whether a servicemember is stationed at the 38th parallel in Korea, on a nuclear sub in the South Pacific, or at a military installation stateside, this law puts jobs and job training at the servicemember’s fingertips.

Veterans also receive first-in-line priority in the Department of Labor’s job training programs and special, non-competitive placement assistance, in federal jobs through the Veterans Recruitment Authority (VRA) program.

On June 2007, DOL announced they have 94 new grants, totaling nearly $27 million.  These grants aim to provide about 17,000 veterans with job training.  The grants are being awarded under the U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Workforce Investment Program and Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program.
