On January 20, 2009, our nation will mark the inauguration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden to become the President and Vice President of the United States. I hope that you share my excitement about this historic event.
The demand for tickets to the inauguration has been overwhelming. Thousands of Californians have requested tickets, beginning as early as last April. Each Senate and House office can offer only a very limited number of tickets, and the requests to my office have far outpaced the number of tickets provided.
Because of the overwhelming interest in the inaugural, those who do not have tickets will still be able to watch from sections of the Mall that are further from the Capitol, where the ceremony will be broadcast live on large-screen televisions. Of course, watching the inauguration on television from the comfort of your own home is a great option, too. Regardless of where you are on January 20, I hope that you will celebrate one of the most extraordinary traditions in our nation.
