Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. John Hall (D-NY19) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has authorized federal funding to help pay for the New York Port Authority's upgrade of Stewart International Airport. The grant, totaling $807,500.00, will be used to fund an overhaul of Stewart’s Weather Instrument Power (WIP) Circuitry, a critical component of the airport's navigational aid systems.

 

"It is encouraging to see the federal government acting to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft traveling through Stewart Airport," said Hall.

 

The Department of Transportation is responsible for regulating the nation’s air travel infrastructure and is a partner on many airport improvement projects.

The New York Port Authority currently oversees Stewart International Airport and has planned a number of modernization initiatives for the airfield.

 

"It is critical that Stewart be adequately equipped to handle its role as both a commercial transportation hub and also a military airfield," said Hall. "I am very pleased that the Department of Transportation recognizes this reality and is supporting Stewart by helping to fund these improvements."
