Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging solicited submissions of exemplary research performed by departments and agencies within the federal government that seeks to advance the well-being of older Americans. Submissions covered a wide range of areas, such as maintaining health, assuring adequate income, finding employment, engaging in productive and rewarding activity, securing proper housing, and obtaining long-term care and assistance. The Committee was especially pleased to receive submissions that demonstrate significant achievements in cross-cutting issues such as promoting interagency collaboration, strengthening research infrastructure, and advancing data collection efforts.
All submissions will be included in the Recognition of Excellence in Aging Research Committee report to be issued this fall. This compilation of research submissions will be utilized by the Committee and other policymakers to inform aging policy and to serve as a catalyst for continued progress in addressing the most pressing concerns of the nation's older population.
