Internships

A limited number of U.S. Senate Internships are available to students who want to learn about the Senate, Congress and the federal government firsthand. A Senate Internship is a wonderful opportunity to see the Senate in action, while working to advance legislation and other projects important to North Dakota.

Internships are available in Washington DC, Bismarck, Fargo and Minot.

Senator Dorgan’s office schedules Senate Internships to run through three general time periods:

  • Spring Term: early January to mid May
  • Summer Term: mid May to mid August
  • Fall Term: mid August to mid December

Please note that the following application deadlines apply to Senator Dorgan’s Washington, DC office:

  • Spring program: November 15th
  • Summer program: March 1st
  • Fall program: July 1st

We try to be flexible in order to track the calendars in place at different colleges and universities, and specific periods of availability for individual Interns. Dates for terms listed above, then, are general and if need be, can be altered to fit individual schedule needs.

Application Process

To apply for an internship you must submit an application with the following:

  1. Application Form
  2. Resume
  3. Current college transcript
  4. Three letters of reference
  5. Writing sample
