League of Conservation Voters singles out Nelson

WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters has singled out Sen. Bill Nelson in the organization's latest environmental scorecard.

The Florida Democrat received a perfect 100 percent from the group for his work on environmental issues. The League also noted that Nelson was among the candidates the group supported in the November 2006 primary against opponents listed in the group's "Dirty Dozen" score card.

The League's "Dirty Dozen" program targeted congressional members whom the group felt voted against certain environmental policy. In 2006, Nelson was re-elected to another term after defeating former Rep. Katherine Harris, who received a 15 percent lifetime score from the League.

Sen. Mel Martinez, a Republican and Florida's other senator, received 13 percent in this year's scorecard from the League.
