Batavia, IL, Oct 10 - Today, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) announced that the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation awarded the FITE Center for Independent Living a Quality of Life grant.

"With this grant from the Reeve Foundation, the FITE Center for Independent Living will be able to help disabled individuals better manage their own lives," Rep. Foster said. "I congratulate the Center for Independent Living for its excellent work in securing this grant."

The Reeve Foundation, funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), awarded the Elgin-based non-profit organization a grant for $15,000. The money will be used to educate disabled individuals on how to hire and manage personal assistants, which improves their quality of life.

"Everyone should have the opportunity to live independently and with dignity in their own home," said Marci Savage, Executive Director of the FITE Center for Independent Living. "Learning how to manage a personal assistant is one way to achieve that goal.  Thanks to the Christopher Reeve Foundation and the support of legislators such as Rep. Foster, we are able to help more individuals achieve their independence."

"The Reeve Foundation and the CDC have teamed up with the Center for Independent Living to improve the physical and emotional health of people with disabilities," Rep. Foster said. "By bridging these barriers constituents have a chance lead more active lives, enriching our entire 14th District community."
