  Committee Internship Program

Chairman Conyers

The Committee on the Judiciary’s internship program offers both undergraduate and law students an opportunity to experience the operation of a congressional committee first hand and learn about the important role that House committees play in the legislative process. The Committee on the Judiciary has jurisdiction over a wide range of legislative and oversight issues which include constitutional amendments, litigation reform, patent and trademark law, federal criminal law, federal civil rights law, antiterrorism, immigration and naturalization, and antitrust. Interns are generally placed - based on their areas of interest - with the full committee or one of the five subcommittees. Internship applications should include a current resume, list of references, and letter of introduction which contains the following information:

  1. Why you are interested in an internship with the committee
  2. Your dates and hours of availability
  3. At least a paragraph explaining your political views - specifically on issues falling under the committee’s jurisdiction.

Applications can be submitted in the following ways:

By mail to:

Intern Coordinator
2138 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
By e-mail to: dems.judiciary@mail.house.gov
By fax to: (202) 225-7680 Attn: Intern Coordinator

Interested candidates should be aware that there is a Majority (Democrat) and a Minority (Republican) office within the committee. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply with the office which most appropriately reflects their political views. Those interested in interning for the minority, can find their contact information on the link "Minority Web site." The committee considers internship applications for both the spring and fall semesters as well as the summer months. Summer is a popular time for students to seek internships, and selection is highly competitive. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications, we are not able to personally interview every applicant. Those selected for an interview for a summer internship should expect to be contacted sometime in late February to March. Decisions for summer interns are made by early April.
