Agriculture

Agriculture is Mississippi’s number one industry, employing 25 percent of the state’s workforce.  Mississippi’s farm, timber, cattle, and seafood producers are some of the most valuable and productive in the nation.  The agriculture industry serves as the backbone of our free market system and it is important that Mississippi farmers are protected from unnecessary cuts to programs designated to support their operations.

The Farm Bill is a vital source of farm support, food assistance, agriculture trade, and rural development policies issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and impacting Mississippi farmers and communities across our state.  I voted for the 2008 Farm Bill and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to pass legislation that will continue to have a positive impact on Mississippi and U.S. agriculture as a whole.
