Twin Falls was the site of Evel Knievel's attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon on September 8, 1974. He settled on the Snake River Canyon after several years of attempting to get permission to jump the Grand Canyon. While launching from the ramp at the edge of the canyon, Knievel's drogue parachute accidentally deployed. That caused enough drag to keep the motorcycle from making it across the canyon. Knievel survived the jump and subsequent fall into the canyon with only minor injuries.
