MISSISSIPPI HOSPITALS TO RECEIVE HURRICANE KATRINA RECOVERY FUNDS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Health and Human Services indicated that Mississippi will receive $8.95 million in funding to assist hospitals that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Senator Thad Cochran announced today.  The assistance will help hospitals rebuild their workforces by enabling them to provide competitive wages to attract well qualified staff.

“In order for health care facilities in Mississippi to fully recover from the losses caused by Hurricane Katrina, they must have the resources needed to attract and retain good workers,” said Senator Cochran.  “I am glad the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services have recognized this need in Mississippi and provided much needed relief.”

The State of Mississippi will have the responsibility of determining funding recipients based on damage from Hurricane Katrina.
