Napolitano Secures Funds for the 38^th District

Pending approval by the Senate in January, the following moneys should be available locally:

Pomona

$150,000 for City of Pomona’s Police Communications System Upgrade:  To make technological improvements that will eliminate communication lapses and “dead zones” which hamper police operations.

Pico Rivera

$300,000 for City of Pico Rivera’s Rosemead Boulevard Improvement Project:  To implement major repairs to Rosemead Boulevard/Highway 19, from North to South city limits, specifically new pavement, sidewalks, traffic loops, underground electrical lines, street lighting and railroad wings walls.

Norwalk

$200,000 for City of Norwalk’s Reservoir Project:  To fund upgrades to the City’s water facilities and provide a more reliable water supply, including a new 3,000 gallon per minute Water Supply Well in the vicinity of a proposed reservoir pump station facility in Norwalk Park.  (Rep. Napolitano also secured an additional $100,000 in federal funding for this project through the Energy and Water appropriations bill, passed last month.)

La Puente and Hacienda Heights

$50,000 for Hacienda La Puente USD’s SWING Juvenile Delinquency Program:  To fund additional support staff and enrichment materials, such as library books, technology, science equipment and art supplies, for the Seniors With Interests in New Generations (SWING)) Program which enlists senior citizens to volunteer and provide individual tutorial sessions with “at risk” or disadvantaged students. 

$100,000 for City of La Puente’s Youth Center:  To fund the construction of a Youth Learning Center in La Puente as a part of the city’s effort to provide “at risk” youth with after school activities and educational  enrichment and to prevent or reduce participation in gangs, narcotic trafficking, drug use and other  behaviors. 

Other Entities and Multi-City Projects:

$700,000 for I-5 JPA’s Expansion Work:  To fund improvements and lane expansions for the Interstate 5 (I-5) Freeway between Interstate 710 and State Route 91 in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, California.

$3.2 million for Alameda Corridor East (ACE) Phase II Plan:  To implement a comprehensive corridor improvement program that will address both existing and anticipated safety and mobility issues at a total of 55 grade crossings along a 35-mile corridor through San Gabriel Valley from East Los Angeles to Pomona.  

$4 million for SGV COG’s Metro Gold Line Phase II Extension:  To fund Phase II of the Gold Line Project to connect downtown Los Angeles and Claremont through the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metro Rail System.  (Phase II extends eastward 22.5 miles from Pasadena, CA to the western edge of San Bernadino County, connecting 11 cities with 10 stations and serving an area of approximately 1.9 million residents and 30 municipalities.)

$2.5 million for Foothill Transit’s “Transit Oriented Neighborhood Program”:    To construct commuter park-and-ride facilities throughout the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys. 

$1 million for MTOC Coalition Buslines (Cities of   Montebello, Norwalk, Commerce, Culver City, Gardena, Santa Monica and Torrance):  To fund the replacement of buses that are at the end of their useful life (more than 12 years old), with ADA accessible and cleaner fuel buses; replace diesel-fueled buses with alternative fuel (CNG and electric) and cleaner-burning diesel buses; expand service in high demand areas of four operators’ systems; and construct compressed natural gas fueling facilities and additional bus facilities.
