Sgt. Rafael Peralta Medal of Honor
In 2004, San Diego native Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta was killed while shielding his comrades from the impact of a grenade thrown by insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq. While nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor, in September 2008, Sgt. Peralta was posthumously awarded the second highest award, the Navy Cross. Mr. Issa joined his San Diego Congressional colleagues in writing to President Bush to request a review of the award.
