I support comprehensive immigration reform legislation that includes four key components. First, I believe that a clear path to citizenship for the people who are already in the U.S. working and paying taxes will help ensure their full participation in our society. Second, I support an expedited process for family reunification and believe the federal government has an obligation to clear up the backlog of family visa requests. Third, I support a workable employment verification system that provides adequate resources to businesses along with stiff penalties for employers that knowingly hire undocumented immigrants. Finally, I support the passage of the DREAM Act, legislation designed to increase access to higher education for the children of foreign-born workers. |
