Boyda Supports Major Tax Relief for Small Businesses
02/16/07WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) today voted for H.R. 976, the Small Business Tax Relief Act, which will reduce taxes on small businesses by $1.3 billion over the next 10 years. The legislation was designed to help small employers offset the cost of the minimum wage increase recently approved by the U.S. House of Representatives.
H.R. 976 creates new incentives for employers to hire disabled veterans, simplifies tax filing requirements for businesses owned jointly by husbands and wives, and helps small businesses invest in new equipment. These measures are targeted to benefit the employers who will be most affected by an increase in the minimum wage.
The Small Business Tax Relief Act passed the House with broad bipartisan support.
Boyda said, "When the House of Representatives voted to increase the minimum wage, we fulfilled our responsibility to working families. Now we have met our obligation to help small businesses afford to pay better wages. The Small Business Tax Relief Act is an outstanding bipartisan compromise that demonstrates how Congress can support both employers and their employees."
