Boyda Announces Over $3.1 Million in Grants for Kansas Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Nancy Boyda today announced several federal grants for projects in the Kansas Second Congressional District, totaling over $3.1 million:

  • The Department of Homeland Security awarded $2,529,855 in Emergency Management Performance Grants to the state of Kansas for fiscal year 2007.
  • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded a $247,500 Economic Development Initiative Special Project Grant to the city of Fort Scott. 
  •  The U.S. Department of Education awarded $1,000 to the Kansas State Department of Education to help pay for 675 Advanced Placement tests that will be taken by low-income students this spring.
  • The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded $328,500 to the Natural Antibodies and Tissue Injury project at Kansas State University.

Kansas State University will receive additional funds through two other federal programs. The Department of Defense will award $41.2 million in Defense University Research Instrumentation Program grants to 112 academic institutions, including KSU, and the Department of Energy will distribute $5.6 million in Nuclear Energy Research Initiative funds to 15 U.S. universities, also including KSU.

Boyda said, "These exciting grants once again demonstrate that Kansans are working on the cutting edge of technology, biology, and education. I congratulate the recipients on their well-earned awards."
