Boyda Honors Kansas Veterans at Medal Ceremony

TOPEKA, KS – Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas - Second District) hosted a medal ceremony at her Congressional office in Topeka Friday afternoon. Seven Kansas veterans and constituents of Rep. Boyda contacted the Congresswoman for her assistance in receiving medals for military service. Since taking office, Boyda’s staff has recovered hundreds of unattained awards and decorations from 68 constituent inquiries.

Rep. Boyda said, “These veterans deserve a fitting tribute for their service to our country. No words can ever thank them enough for their dedication to protecting freedom, but we can ensure this dedication does not go unnoticed. I am honored that these veterans came to my office for assistance and delighted my staff was able to recover these awards.”

Carl Gregg of Paola served in the Army from January 1946 to April 1949 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. Mr. Gregg received the following: 

• Good Conduct Medal
• American Campaign Medal
• World War II Victory Medal
• Honorable Lapel Button WWII

Edward Yanek of Leavenworth served in the Army from October 1967 to August 1971 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Private First Class. Mr. Yanek received the following: 

• Army Commendation Medal
• National Defense Service Medal
• Vietnam Service Medal with one Campaign Star
• Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon
• Korean Defense Service Medal
• Marksman Badge & Rifle Bar

Elmer Holthaus of Centralia served in the Army from June 1968 to January 1970 and was honorable discharged at the rank of Specialist. Mr. Holthaus received the following: 

• Army Commendation Medal
• National Defense Service Medal
• Vietnam Service Medal with one Campaign Star
• Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon
• Army Aviation Air Craft Crewman Badge
• Expert Badge & Automatic Rifleman’s Bar
• Sharpshooter Badge & Rifle Bar

Carl Kester of Perry served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 and was honorable discharged at the rank of Specialist. Mr. Kester received the following: 

• National Defense Services Medal
• Expert Badge & Rifle Bar

Larry Doolin of Topeka served in the Army from March 1970 to December 1971 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Private. Mr. Doolin received the following: 

• Good Conduct Medal
• National Defense Service Medal
• Sharpshooter Badge & Auto Rifle Bar
• Marksman Badge & Machine Gun Bar

Robert Langston of Topeka served in the Army from December 1917 to July 1919 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. On behalf of Mr. Langston, his son, Robert Langston Jr., received the following: 

• World War I Victory Button
• World War I Victory Medal & Aisne-Marne Battle
• Clasp & Champaigne - Marne Battle Clasp
• Defense Sector Battle Clasp & Oise - Aisne Battle Clasp

Douglas Teener of Manhattan served in the Army from 1968 to August 1971. Mr. Teener received the following: 

• Purple Heart
• National Defense Service Medal
• Vietnam Service Medal
• Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon
• Expert Badge & Grenade Bar & Rifle Bar
• Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge
