U.S. House Approves $3.2 Million for Second District Transportation Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, July 24, 2007, the House of Representatives approved $3.2 million in funding for road and other transportation projects.  The funding, requested by Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District), was included in H.R. 3074, the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act of 2008, which passed the House by a vote of 268 - 153.

“Providing support for roadways and other transportation projects in the Second District is vitally important and I am pleased that I was able to secure $3.2 million for these projects” said Boyda.  “We've now cleared two of four hurdles.  These appropriations still have to pass through the Senate and then be signed by the President. So I don't want to count our chickens just yet. We've all learned that lesson.  I'll be working very hard to make sure this money clears all the hurdles and comes to Kansas as soon as possible.”

Boyda announced the following funds:

$1,000,000 for runway improvements at the Manhattan Airport
$1,000,000 for I-70 Viaduct realignment
$300,000 for bus replacement for the Topeka Transit Authority
$250,000 for work on US 69
$250,000 for work on K-20
$200,000 for the Ottawa Industrial Park
$100,000 for streetscape improvements in Fredonia
$100,000 for public access to park land adjacent to Great Overland Station

Now the U.S. Senate must vote on their version of Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act of 2008, there must be a House/Senate Conference to work out differences between the bills and the President must sign the bill into law.
