Congressional Page Program

Dear Friends:

I am pleased to announce that my office will be nominating a student from the Second Congressional District of Kansas to serve as a Congressional Page for the 2008 Summer session of the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Page Program.

Congressional Pages are high school students who are hired to serve as support staff for the U.S. House of Representatives. They play an important role in the life and work of Congress, their duties consist of calling members to votes, acting as couriers, answering phones in the Member’s Cloakroom, preparing the House Floor for sessions. The program uses a rotation system so each student serving as a page has the opportunity to experience the various areas of service.

The Congressional Page Program has been operating since the early 1800’s. There are currently over 400 offices that participate in the page program and there are 66 page positions available each term. Offices selected to nominate a page are rotated on basis of seniority. As a freshmen member of Congress it is my honor to nominate a student from the Second District of Kansas to fill one of these positions for the 110th Congress.

In order for a student to be eligible to apply to my office for a nomination to the Congressional Page Program they must be at least 16 years of age, completed 10th grade but not started the 12th grade, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (85/100 on a numerical scale), and be a U.S. citizen residing in the Second District of Kansas.

Attached you will find an application form and a check list for students who would like to apply to my office for this opportunity. All students interested in applying for this opportunity must have their materials turned in no later than March 31, 2008.

If you have any questions please contact my Page Program Coordinator, Kate Disinger, at 202-225-6601 or via email at kate.disinger@mail.house.gov.

Thank you for spreading the word about this opportunity to your students.

Sincerely,
Rep. Boyda's signature
