APPOINTMENTS - Pursuant to Section 125(c)(1) of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (P.L. 110-343), and the order of the House of January 4, 2007, the Chair announced a joint appointment by the Speaker and the Majority Leader of the Senate and an appointment by the Speaker on the Part of the House to the Congressional Oversight Panel: Joint Appointment: Mr. Damon Silvers, Maryland; Speaker's Appointment: Mr. Richard H. Neiman, New York.

ADJUSTED WHOLE NUMBER OF THE HOUSE - Under clause 5(d) of rule XX, the Chair announced to the House that, in light of the resignation of the gentleman from Virginia, Mr. Tom Davis, the whole number of the House is 434.

11:04 A.M. -
The House received a communication from Representative Davis, Tom wherein he resigns as a member of the House of Representatives effective at 6:00 p.m. on November 24, 2008.

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a message from the Secretary of the Senate on November 24, 2008, at 10:05 a.m., stating that that body had passed H.R. 6859, S. 3663, S. 3681, S. 3711, S. 3712 and agreed to H.Con.Res. 435.

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a message from the Secretary of the Senate on November 20, 2008, at 3:57 p.m., stating that that body had passed without amendment H.R. 6867.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - The Chair designated Ms. McCollum of MN to lead the Members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

The Speaker announced approval of the Journal. Pursuant to clause 1, rule I, the Journal stands approved.

Today's prayer was offered by the House Chaplain, Rev. Daniel Coughlin.

NOTIFICATION OF THE REASSEMBLY OF THE HOUSE - Pursuant to section 2 of the House Concurrent Resolution 440, after consultation with the Minority Leader of the House and the Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker notificed the House that the public interest requires that the House reassemble at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, the Senate already being in session.

Pursuant to section 2 of House Concurrent Resolution 440, 110th Congress, the House will be in order.
