Blunt: Senate Democrats Move to Keep 800 Billion Barrels of American Shale Energy Away from American Consumers

Washington, Sep 25 -

House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement today after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced his plans to re-insert a provision House Republicans fought to exclude from the continuing resolution (CR) that would prevent the development of more than 800 billion barrels of homegrown shale energy in the Intermountain West:

“Only hours removed from a successful effort led by House Republicans to ensure a back-door congressional ban on responsible energy development out west was struck from the CR, it appears Senate Democrats still haven’t gotten the memo. The fact that Sen. Reid would try to sneak a sweeping, previously-discarded, anti-energy provision into an unrelated, temporary spending bill is just the latest indication of how out-of-touch congressional Democrats are with millions of struggling energy consumers.

“More than 800 billions barrels of available shale energy reside in the Intermountain West – ready to be produced right now, able to be developed safely, and desperately needed by millions of American families. As Democrats in the House and Senate continue to fight to keep those resources far away from those families, Republicans will continue to fight for an ‘all of the above’ strategy for ending this energy crisis. And finally unlocking these massive, homegrown energy resources out west is a key component of that plan.”
