The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 6515, the Drill Responsibly in Leased Lands (DRILL) Act. This bill contains the “use it or lose it” language that does not open up any new lands anywhere to American energy exploration and production.  Read More

Let 'Em Move
Embarrassed though House Democratic leaders may be by Republican success in proposing — and, often, passing — politically loaded motions to recommit, it would be an outrage for the majority to limit the minority’s right to do so...

Democrat Majority Whip Tries to Slip in $3 Million Earmark into Defense Spending Bill While Striking Critical Border Security Funding
Washington, D.C. -- Democrats continued their streak of financial irresponsibility and brazenness, voting 213-6 to drop a $3 million earmark for a golf center named after the Democratic House Majority Whip, James Clyburn (D-SC) into the Defense Appropriations bill...

SCHIP Vote: Dems Wait for California Republicans to Leave Town to Hold Key Vote
October 25, 2007 -- Democrats are pushing a new vote on SCHIP today. Speaker Pelosi rushed to the floor to announce that “there is (now) a cap of 300% of poverty as to who may receive the benefit,” addressing one of the problems the vetoed bill had which allowed families earning as much as $83,000 to qualify for this free health care program. One problem however. My staff and I just read the bill as did my colleagues and we discovered this important caveat to her declaration. The bill states in section 114, “nothing in these amendments made by this section shall be construed as changing any income eligilbilty level for children.” In other words, ignore what we said elsewhere in the bill, there are no income limitations for this benefit. Furthermore, during floor debate Chairman Dingell admitted that states have the ability to exempt from the 300% of poverty “cap” ($63,000) calculations tens of thousands of dollars, thus enabling families making as much as $110,000 or more to enroll in SCHIP. Deceit and deception still seem to be the plan for getting this bill passed.

Ca. Representative Smears Troops During Children's Health Care Debate
During the SCHIP debate on the House floor on Thursday, Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) had to throw in this comment about the US Troops: "Where you gonna get that money? You gonna tell us lies like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have money to fund the war or children, but you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we could get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement." Is there any wonder why Congress' approval rating is only 11% when this is the type of debate taking place on the House floor?

Turkey: House Democrat Leadership Set to Disrupt Troop Supply Chain
Speaker Pelosi is about to make one of the most significant decisions with regard to the war in Iraq. “Speaker Pelosi is apparently so intent on forcing an end to American involvement in Iraq that she is willing to interfere in our tenuous friendship with Turkey. When she does, it will be an historic event: the House of Representatives will be responsible for alienating a key ally in time of war and possibly interdicting supplies to US troops.” Also, why would Chairman Lantos, who has voted against this legislation in past years, support this bill this year in his committee if it weren’t more about disrupting the war effort in Iraq and less about past actions in Turkey.

Dems Believe First Amendment is Out of Control
“Rep. Henry Waxman has asked his investigative staff to begin compiling reports on Limbaugh, and fellow radio hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin based on transcripts from their shows, and to call in Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin Martin to discuss the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

Boss Hoyer Says, "We Control This House"
Democratic leaders’ repeated manipulation of the August 2 House vote Republicans apparently won was so severe it could justify censure or removal of Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer and of New York’s Michael McNulty, the presiding member at the time of the vote...

The Assault on Petraeus
There is a long American tradition of savaging failed generals, from George McClellan to William Westmoreland. It is a more novel tactic to attack a successful one. Sen. Dick Durbin accuses Gen. David Petraeus of "carefully manipulating the statistics." Sen. Harry Reid contends, "He's made a number of statements over the years that have not proven to be factual." A newspaper ad by MoveOn.org includes the taunt: "General Petraeus or General Betray Us?" -- perhaps the first time since the third grade that this distinguished commander has been subjected to this level of wit...

Democrats Make Mockery of House. Why? To Give Jobs and Housing to Illegal Immigrants
After Republicans won a vote last night to deny taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants (215-213), House Democrat leadership violated House rules, wiping out the victory, and strong-arming its own party members to switch votes in its favor...

Dem Committee Members Tinker with Funding Formula to Pad Hospital Coffers in Their Own Districts
Congressional Quarterly today published a telling article about a Democratic bill approved this week that boosts revnues for certain hospitals participating in Medicare. It just so happens that all but one of the hospitals to receive more taxpayer money are located in Democrat districts. In fact many of the hospitals are located in disctricts of Democrat members of Congress who serve on the key committees that wrote the bill...
