Plane Talk - Midwest Flight 89, Seat 13D

I hope Mother’s Day was a good one for everyone. I know that, for me, it was one I won’t soon forget.

I have to brag for a moment. My daughter Leah made a wonderful Mother’s Day dinner. Along with good food, we had excellent company. Leah’s boyfriend's family lives in Wamego, so our house is the perfect place for all of us to come together.

Leah cooking for all of us was a first and, as much as I loved it, it felt kind of funny. I'm not sure I'm ready for this role reversal thing!

Then, this morning, I was honored to speak in front of an all-school assembly at Wamego Middle School. Our granddaughter Paige helped to arrange the morning with her Social Studies teacher, Mr. Hardenburger. She introduced me to the crowd of her peers and teachers and she did a fantastic job.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect at this assembly. Only two weeks left in school--spring fever at a pitch. I was worried they wouldn't be attentive and interested. But they were! They asked insightful questions and actually paid attention.

If you think talking to middle school students is easy, think again! They aren't swayed by words like fiduciary....

They were curious about all facets of my life. One girl asked "Do people treat you differently now that you're in Congress?” Great question and one I hadn't been asked before.

These kids are our future. You would have been impressed. Go give one a big hug......if they'll let you.

Go Raiders!!
