WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn released the following statement in response to President Bush’s press conference earlier today in which he expressed his support for a bipartisan and bicameral economic stimulus package.
“I welcome President Bush’s comments today regarding his desire to work with the New Direction Congress in developing an economic stimulus package to help hardworking Americans adversely affected by our slowing economy. With unemployment numbers rising, energy costs soaring, and property values plummeting, low-income and middle-class families are in need of immediate assistance.
“I sincerely hope that the current round of bipartisan and bicameral negotiations taking place in the Congress will lead to the quick passage of an economic stimulus package that is timely, targeted, and temporary.”
